One of Schell’s Best

I’m usually not a big fan of Schell’s brews. They seem mediocre, without much personality.

The Stout bucked this trend by virtue of it’s tasty malt flavoring and above average drinkability. I still wouldn’t say it’s high on personality but it does sit at the top of the Schell’s beeramid.

Our volleyball team decided to stop at Stub and Herb’s last night after the final game of the season. I asked about the Schell Dunkel since it wasn’t on the beer menu and the server responded that they just tapped it five minutes ago. What luck!

The beer came out with almost no head but it tasted pretty carbonated. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this beer but it was tasty enough for me to order another instead of picking something else off their impressive beer list. I don’t know if I would go out specifically to test this beer but if you happen to be at a bar that serves Schell’s Dunkel, try it out.

Good ol’ August Schell, our standby, our stalwart, keeping the German styles going for nigh on 150 years. Good ol’ gold and green MaiFest label…the bottle’s open and now I drink…Clear, golden hue, big, lasting, creamy white head…loverly… Sweet malty nose, apples and cereal husks, with whiffs of honey…wow, a lot going on here. Shines bright in the nose, but in the taste… beautiful. Tons of fresh malty flavor, but never too heavy, very drinkable, and floods of flavor keeps rolling in…Crisp and delicious…lays on the palate a bit, then softly drifts away. Seems better than I remember it…are these guys improving after nearly a century and a half? Haiku #8 (for week 14? I’ve got catching up to do!)Though April showers/may come your way, drink the beer /that they brew for May.

I love this beer. In fact, I drank about 10 of them on tap somewhere in Apple Valley….things are foggy now… It was very tasty and I can’t wait to have a few more. Spring is here! Somewhere….

This might be my new favorite beer. It had just the right balance of light favors. Clean and simple equals tasty.

The Brau’s have been plugging away in the brew world for a number of years – first with the Brauhaus brewpub in tiny Lucan, Minnesota and more recently with Brau Brothers Brewing Co. It’s a small, family-run affair and they do almost everything in-house, from the brewing to poster-printing, silk-screening t-shirts, etc. Up until recently, they were even hand-screening their beer bottles.

On to the beer… Brau Brothers’ Frame Straightener is a Belgian-style pale ale, not terribly unlike Flat Earth Belgian Pale Ale. Copper color, with a thin white head. Think old man in Miami. The yeast comes through in the aroma as well as some fruit and biscuit-like notes. More of the same in flavor with a touch of sweetness and a dry finish. The six pack is already gone. Dammit. Nicely done. Dustin has a history of brewing tasty Belgian-style brews with the Brauhaus, so it’s nice to see him using their Single Batch Series to reach back into his bag of tricks.

I have loved this beer from the moment it first hit my lips. Not everyone loves a hoppy brew but if you do you can’t miss this tasty treat from the friendly folks at Surly.

Purchased at Cellar’s in Eagan for $8.99+tax.

I dig it.

Cracked open a bottle with dinner tonight, great smell, nice head when poured into the glass. The lady liked it, I liked it, the man sized bottle was gone quick. It has a strong initial taste and is a very drinkable beer, I will be buying this again.

Purchased at Sid’s for $2.99 plus tax(if I remember correctly, receipt was lost)
