Rite of spring,
Rising out of syrupy darkness,
Cleaner, sharper, crisper.
Recall, if you will, our first,
You – available and new,
Me – ambitious and naiive,
We shared more than one.
I couldn’t drive.

Both these beers appropriately provide a great transition from my winter beer preference (dark, heavy and sweet) to my summer beer preference (lighter, hoppier). I’m pretty happy that we have more around the house.

Summit Maibock smooths the transition from Winter Ale to Summer’s Scandia Ale. It’s a refreshing, if somewhat uninteresting, stop on the Summit seasonal tour. Maibock is a little sweet and easy to drink. It has the feel of Summit’s popular EPA without the hops.

I like Maibocks. Schell’s MaiFest is not my favorite, it is a little too sweet for my taste. Still, it is not bad and like the other beers from Schell’s it is very competitively priced…although, lately, I’ve definitely noticed the hop shortage reflected in the price of beer
