I usually reserve beers I really like to be consumed alone, and stuff I could take or leave I’ll eat with food. This finds a nice spot in the middle. I had it with pizza, but it was flavorful enough to stand up for itself without taking away from either the eating or the drinking experience.

I’m a little late here, as last week the local beer to be had was Belikin.

I’m OK with the Frame Straightener. It tasted pretty good- I like fruity and yeasty- but I like more body and more finish (broken record). I put it in my mouth, I tasted something in there, then it was gone. Did I even swallow it? I think so, but I can’t be sure.

On the other hand, the Belikin Stout was surprisingly tasty. I’d give it four stars.

So I shared a bottle of Frame Straightener with the wifey on Sunday and enjoyed it overall. I was pretty shocked to see Nick’s review, but I figured he just had some beef (like his girlfriend left him for one of the Brau Brothers or something). Then I saw a few more of the “bad batch” reactions so I went out and bought another six pack last night to try again. It still tasted good to me, but I agree that it’s just missing a bit of the impact…like Josh said, it tasted a bit watered down. Truth be told, I think the real reason I’m bothered by this lack of “pow” is that with a name like Frame Straightener you expect a powerful flavor. Oh well, I still like it and will have no problem finishing off the sixer.

I’m no Michael Jackson, but I think this is exactly how this style of beer should taste. That said I can see how some people might be put off by the style, the fruity, yeasty flavor. I taste plums and maybe even a hint of peach. I’m impressed that MN brewery is putting out a true Belgium like this. I think you have to be in the right mood, but this is a pretty good beer! This is the first Brau Brothers beer I’ve had…it will be interesting to taste some of the other beers they offer.
