General Questions
The year has already started! Can I still participate?

Yes! At this point you can still join in as a participant. Just email Rett at brew52.com. In the future we may close off registration, however you can always follow along, drinking the official beer of the week and commenting on others’ reviews.

Why are you only reviewing Minnesota beers?

The short answer is that I (Rett) live here and I love the local beer. Minnesota has a ton of great breweries and brew-pubs, with plenty of varieties to keep Brew52 participants busy for an entire year. In future years Brew52 may expand to different states, but for now it’s local beer only.

Who’s behind Brew52?

I (Rett again) came up with the idea for Brew52 after attending the Autumn Brew Review put on by the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild. Of course I’ve had a ton of help and support along the way. Thanks go out to Ben Reichelt for his programming expertise, Erin Reichelt for her great photography, my wife for putting up with me, and all of the people that have helped spread the word and joined in on the fun. Oh and I should also mention that this site runs on WordPress and wouldn’t be possible without it.

How many people are participating?

We currently have just over 100 participants, however there are still some folks joining in.

Participant Questions
Do I have to post my reviews within the week? What if I drink the beer on Sunday, and can’t post my review until the following Monday?

This is a festival, a celebration. You can post your review whenever you want. Just remember that only the current week’s beer is featured on the homepage, so that’s when most people will be reading the reviews. So no big deal if you post it late, you just won’t get as much exposure.

Do I have to write a review every week?

Again, Brew52 is all about celebrating beer. So no, you don’t have to write a review every week. You will not get kicked off the island. But just like anything, (be prepared for guilt trip) you get out what you put in. And just think how cool it will be at the end of 2008 to say that you sampled and reviewed a different beer every single week for the whole year.

I’m not a beer expert, how can I review a beer?

Seems to be a theme developing here. While the reviewing and rating beer part is certainly important, at it’s core, Brew52 is an online beer-tasting festival. And what do people do at regular beer festivals? They drink beer and have fun. So you don’t have to be an expert. We want you to review the beer in your own words. So if you are an expert, great. If you’re not, also great.
