Hefeweizens rate in my top 5 favorite brews. I was able to justify drinking them all year long in San Diego, so I had alot of them. This is one of my favorites. Well balanced, without the overpowering cloves that many have, and not needing a lemon to hide overpowering sweetness. Summit, I heart you.

I like it when a flavor profile can be represented (like malt) without being obnoxious. Firebrick does that. The maltiness is mouth-filling (that’s what she said) but not overwhelming. A smooth dark beer for the summer time!

I want to preface this: I don’t think this beer is bad. However…

This strikes me as an attempt to take two mediocre beers and make a decent one. It reminds of what Newcastle could taste like if it wasn’t so sweet.

Brau Brother’s Whirly Bird was not at Surdyk’s as of June 16th, so Becca got a 6-pack of the Pale Ale. Never before have I had a beer with such a strong lemon flavor, unless I overdid it lemon-ing on a Hefe. The website calls it a session beer, but I don’t know. If there is a hops bitterness, I miss it because it gets slammed by lemon tanginess.

I don’t usually choose to drink IPAs. They typically have this sharp edge that is unpleasant to me. That being said, I really liked this beer. It is very well rounded and made for a perfect accompaniment to the fried green beans and bleu burger I had. I have to agree with Rett on the Porter, it was just a little bit too much on the creamy, sweet side. It reminded me of an cold mocha.

Marmalade?

Maybe I am missing something.

This is a hoppy, toasty brew with a long, bitter finish and kind of a flowery smell. Not as creamy as I like from an English-style bitter, but good nonetheless. However, I can’t discern anything that I would describe as marmalade.

Maybe i need more marmalade experience.

I bought this beer before it officially was announced. That means that I got the Pale Ale instead. I really liked it. This was not a Pale like Summit makes. There is significantly less hops, and much more balance. Great, east to drink beer!

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the muni liquor store had the Lakemaid. All they offered were 12 packs, but no beer goes to waste in my house anyway.

This beer is light, both in color and flavor. There is definitely more malt than hops. What I really appreciate is that there is no aftertaste. It really is a crisp, clean, easy to drink beer. Erin might even like it.

Good to drink, not sip.

This beer is very well balanced. There is never an explosion of hops, malt, chocolate, coffee, yeast, or anything else that might turn people off. It should be appreciated by everyone, only the weakest of beer drinkers will shun this brew. There is a slight chemical aftertaste, but barely noticeable. Overall, well done.
