Profile: Pretty much the only beer I ever drink is Miller Lite. My husband (Ben) loves to brew his own beer, so I have to put up with the stink of beer in our house once and awhile. I am hoping that this gives me a new appreciation for "good" beers, but most likely I will still stick with Miller Lite :)
Reviews by Erin:
Mmmmm…… cold coffee, mixed with beer.
Week 18: Flat Earth Black Helicopter (April 28–May 4) | Reviewed on May 3rd, 2008
OK, I know I didn’t technically drink an entire pint of this, but I can still make a judgment off of the 2 sips I stole from Becky. Yuck. I could barely choke down the 2 sips I had. It was like an explosion of different flavors in my mouth, and not in a good way. I will not be having this ever again.
Meh fest
Week 14: Schell Maifest (March 31–April 6) | Reviewed on April 9th, 2008
This beer made my nose crinkle with distaste. I expected to like it for some reason. Perhaps it is because I like the name Mai Fest. Which apparently is pronounced MY not MAY (thanks Rett!!!!). I will continue to mispronounce it. At any rate, this wasn’t my favorite beer - almost too sweet and had some weird aftertaste.
Headache
Week 13: Flat Earth Winter Warlock (March 24–30) | Reviewed on March 31st, 2008
This beer gives me a headache. The flavor actually doesn’t seem that bad to me, but it doesn’t sit well with my system. I would not have another.
Hmm…?
Week 12: Finnegans Irish Amber (March 17–23) | Reviewed on March 18th, 2008
I drank a few sips of this beer after having a few other beers. Thus, I can’t give a very comprehensive review. (As opposed to all of my other VERY comprehensive reviews…)
I don’t think I really liked this one that much. I had a few sips, gave the rest to Ben, and got another Miller Lite.
Pleasant
Week 11: Schell Pilsner (March 10–16) | Reviewed on March 18th, 2008
This beer was great - I could definitely drink several. Honestly, I wasn’t really paying too much attention to the beer, because I was drinking it while cooking (which I rarely do) so I was distracted. I do remember that I liked it - it would be very refreshing on a hot summers day.
First beer on the porch
Week 10: Lake Superior Special Ale (March 3–9) | Reviewed on March 11th, 2008
As I sit here writing my review and drinking my beer, it is a balmy 48 degrees outside. This will be the first of many Brew 52 beers enjoyed on our front porch, which always makes beer taste better. This beer was fine - a little too hoppy still for me, but I can see why everyone else seemed to love it.
Lucan, represent!
Week 9: Brau Brothers Frame Straightener (February 25–March 2) | Reviewed on March 2nd, 2008
My dad grew up on a farm right outside Lucan and I have been to this quaint little town a number of times. (His mom has since moved on to the huge metropolis of Lamberton) I liked this beer mostly because I feel I have to represent the Lucan Love. It wasn’t bad - not too strong but had some flavor. I enjoyed it.
Wow
Week 8: Flat Earth Cygnus X-1 (February 18-24) | Reviewed on February 21st, 2008
I actually like this one! After a discussion with Ben, I came to the conclusion that I do not like beers that have a lot of hoppy or bitter flavors. This beer doesn’t seem to have either of those two flavors because it tasted great to me. Finally.
No thanks
Week 7: Surly 2 (February 11-17) | Reviewed on February 11th, 2008
Ben and I met Rett, Becky, and Josh out at Blue Nile to sample Surly Two. We split 2 beers amongst the table, and I could barely choke down half a glass. I don’t mind sweet beers, something just wasn’t right with this one for me…

Good company, fine beer
Week 6: Herkimer Meet Up, Alt Bier (February 4-10) | Reviewed on February 6th, 2008
It was great to meet some of you at the Herkimer tonight! I took some photos that can be found here. As usual, I didn’t like this beer - perhaps it was too hoppy for me? Although I’m not really sure what that means. I had a Sky Pilot after sampling the Alt, and I liked that one a whole lot better.
Got better with time
Week 5: Summit Winter (January 28-February 3) | Reviewed on January 31st, 2008
My first sip caused me to say “ew” but as I continue to drink this beer I’m getting used to the flavor and enjoying it more. It’s not one I would order at a bar, but it isn’t horrible.
I had low expectations
Week 4: Surly Furious (January 21-27) | Reviewed on January 28th, 2008
Sorry for the late post - I was here last week, and didn’t want to risk putting a can of beer in my suitcase. After reading everyone else’s review, I knew this would be a beer that I wouldn’t really care for. In fact, I didn’t even want to waste a whole can on myself, because my husband loves this beer (as will come in his review soon, I’m sure). At his request, after my few small sips that I didn’t like, I tried a big sip “to really let the flavor sink in” as he said. I still don’t like it. Sorry, Surly lovers - more for you!
I’m not sure about this one
Week 3: Flat Earth Belgian Pale Ale (January 14-20) | Reviewed on January 17th, 2008
This beer is a little too flavorful for my taste. This shows my reaction pretty accurately. I wouldn’t turn down another glass if that was all that was available, I guess, but I wouldn’t seek it out.
beer pong, anyone?
Week 2: Gluek Honey Bock (January 7-13) | Reviewed on January 9th, 2008
As expected, I enjoyed this beer. I doesn’t quite live up to my favorite beer, but it would certainly get the job done. As my title indicates, I would be happy to participate in a friendly game of beer pong with this beer, as it seems that many have quite a few left over. Jamie, perhaps you could bring the remainder of your 24 pack to work tomorrow??
I feel drunk
Week 1: Schell Snowstorm (January 1-6) | Reviewed on January 5th, 2008
This beer was fine. It didn’t make me want to vomit, so that was a plus. Also, any beer that makes me feel a buzz after one is a good one in my book. This could be because I am used to drinking exclusively light beer, or perhaps the alcohol content of this beer is higher than normal. I drank this with my husband Ben, it seems he hated it, but I thought it was pretty good actually.
